Being a German native in the Upper Palatinate, now living in Franconia, I very much enjoyed reading about my homeland area (Grafenwöhr) in "1634 - The Bavarian Crisis". Made me kind of feel at home within the torn history of my region...
and your depiction of Americans transferred into war-torn Germany in the whole 1632 series gave me quite an understanding of how American society is working - some aspects will always look strange to me being socialized in Western Germany in the 70s and 80s...
Thanks a lot for giving me so much fun in hours of reading - keep going on with your work in sf !

I really enjoy your work, and have had to replace several of your paperbacks because they have fallen apart from being carried around and being reread. Your work is wonderful, as is Drakes, Weber, and Ringo. Thank you for bringing enjoyment and wonder into a 60 year old mans life! I started reading as a passion in 5th grade and with the help of a very passionate developmental reading teacher. I then discovered Sir Conrad Dole and Sci-Fi. Thank you for many hours of entertainment.

ths for so much pleasure ironically my politics are best described as thatcherite conservative maybe an example that two ends of a loop can end up very close the basic ideals and freedoms that underpin your writing are very close to my heart i suspect we could enjoy many a heated debate about routes with surprising accord on destinations
I think the tribute a man like you would enjoy the most is simply this to make a 57 year old man really rethink and question his values even if you dont always change them is a great gift ty

Eric -- Crossed over to your writing from reading through David Webers various series. I find your writing quite enjoyable. Normally, with Alternate History novels (1632), I give it a chapter to determine if I keep reading. The intertwining of the story with the Sfardi vs Ashkanazi (and Observant vs Secular) I find quite enjoyable. It is a nice twist to see Jewish theology well handled in a novel (whereas David Weber seems just anti-religion all together -- see Safehold -- although I do love the Safehold series). Can you add a bit up your religious upbringing to your Bio? It would be interesting to see where you come from versus what ends up in your books.

I just wanted to write to say thanks. I so enjoyed reading 1632--I had read some George RR Martin, then found Steve Stirling's books-- but couldn't believe my luck to find your work. I am a union organizer for the hospitality union, Unite-Here, and a science fiction fan. I particularly appreciated the notes at the end of the book that talk about the typical portrayal of working people in science fiction. You obviously retain your organizing skills--picking such great array of leadership figures reminded me so much of the organizing committee that is the backbone of our union. I eagerly anticipate reading the rest of your work. In Solidarity, Lou Weeks, Organizing Director, Local 1, Chicago.

I picked up 1634: The Bavarian Crisis while on Vacation in Yellowstone and am currently on page 127. It is like trying to read an encyclopedia of history by reading every fifth page, and skipping every other paragraph. What is the story? Where is the character development? Dramatic tension? Plot? ? Maybe it would help to go to the first book: 1632 for more illumination, but I'm beginning to have my doubts. I'm thinking this whole thing is a socialist plot to see how many "corporate trained" capitalists will purchase, and read slavishly, utterly meaningless historically based drivel, driven by the mere hope that if it has a blurb from Publishers Weekly on the dust cover, it must be good. Still I'll soldier on. After all I paid $7.99 dang it! I just hope it comes together soon.

I'm one of those, "if he writes it, I'll read it," types & I've been on your books for years. Oddly, I see a lot more of a libertarian, maybe a little anarchist, thread in your main characters than I do hard-core socialist. Am I missing something?
