great start….wonder if this book will see a more pro-active campaign against the COGA now that ‘the borders have been secured’ campaign. And I want to know what ‘the key’ is , mentioned in the closing chapters of BHD by the reformist Wylsynn’s – is this a ‘super’ weapon or a ‘spill-the-beans’ expose. Yes plenty to look forward to.

Let’s see how this plays out, RH. All other resistance against Charis has been based on religeous grounds, this one seems to focus on secular reasoning. That in itself suggests a value to be nurished. Yes, the more lives lost increases the chances that Corisande will never be part of the empire. However, a secular, independant Corisande leadership is almost as good as a Corisande province of the Charisian Empire. Especially if they are a democratic republic with a broader voting representation than Siddermark. Such a nation that’s even simply neutral to Charis is worthwhile and preferred over a constantly rebelious province.

Well in that case, PZ, I’ll definitely vote for death. Martyr or no, people stupid enough to blindly support the COGA and obviously flawed human leadership for it without even caring whether the leadership is right or not deserve whatever they get.

I’m slightly surprised the snipers didn’t see the gun being drawn and intervene. I mean, I understand being able to conceal it, but this isn’t exactly a weapon you can “quick draw”. I don’t know, maybe I’m just spoiled by the Secret Service snipers (in the decent movies at least) but I would think they’d have at least a couple of people with guns cocked and presented, ready to fire at the moment the threat appears. If “preventing” an assassination truly is the intent, that’s without-any-doubt the order I’d have given. One dead instigator holding a gun might well have saved another unlucky fellow’s eyesight (and probably many other people’s lives). I know Corisande is probably a powder-keg just waiting for the spark, but how is one preempted assassin worse than 50 dead or maimed innocents… AND the actually guilty bastard likely gets away with murder?

American revolutionary patriots’ names being used to forment revolution from the antagonist perspective. Well, perhaps the movement just begins from the antagonistic perspective. Perhaps Corisande will win its freedom but form into a nation that is not antagonistic towards Charis, much like the US did over time with Britain. (the name was first highlihgted at the BAR)

@14, @11 In the past TOR released the BHD ebook for ereader, adobe and epub at around the same time that the audiobook was released. The ebook (from TOR) was the SAME PRICE AS THE HARDCOVER and the audiobook was $70. And there are $9.99 Kindle and nook editions.
