I'll have to check what was mentioned about the Lleix in the earlier book, but I think they developed on their own before they came under the control of the Ekhat. The Jao were 'created' by the Ekhat.

However, the clan structure of Jao society has strong counter-parts in human societies so the clans could have developed 'naturally' once the Jao were created. Of course, the Ekhat would have prevented any strong unity beyond the clans.

The 'guild' system of the Lleix (judging by the existance of the Childtenders) appears to have gone farther than any human Guild systems but government by Guilds was a feature of some early modern European towns.

Drak, maybe - it's still an interesting parallel between how they are organized and put together - at least from the snippets of Lleix society I've seen.

Also, what is natural? It's a good question, but I'd say that as a general rule of thumb, human society could be considered natural (no outside forces messing with it), and Jao and Lleix societies more artificial (implanted from external sources).

I disagree concerning similarities between Llexx society and Jao society. Just from the names, you can see that the Llexx organizations are more like Guilds (professions) while the Jao organizations are extended families or clans.

As for only humans being 'natural', what's natural? [Wink]

If I remember it right, wasn't the Lleix and the Jao both a client/slave specie for the Ekhat...? Perhaps the similarities stem from their time with the Ekhat. I think the female character - the presidents daughter, can't remember her name - speculate in the first book, about some of the Jao customs and behavior that resembled Ekhat behavior? Especial the Jao body language and the Ekhat's "dancing"?

It's a bit amazing to see some of the similarities between Llexx society and Jao society.

In this galaxy, is only humanity natural?
